Don't Post a Resume That Is Your Stiffest Competition

So we've been talking about the do's and don'ts of resumes and cover letters - but I'll bet you didn't know that your biggest competitor... could be YOU. Post a resume to a public job board or search data bank and you could end up boxing yourself into a job paying far less than your true market value.

Consider this little nugget I picked out of a reputable columnist posting the other day about one of the reasons you should not post a resume publicly to a job bank:

"Did you know that if your resume is posted on the wrong employment search board with the wrong information you can literally be competing against yourself?

It's true. Part of the recruiting process companies make their human resources departments go through these days in order to fill new vacancies is to review available market information on local job boards. How sad will it be if your data is taken from one board and used by a recruiting firm with an open position for a salary higher than what you've posted as your required salary? Do you know that this sort of scenario happens thousands of times a day on job boards?
Don't let this happen to you."

Well all I can say is, "Amen" to that last sentiment. The LAST thing you want to do is getting into the wrong end of a bidder war with your exact perfect opponent... YOU. Do yourself a favor and use your job resume banks wisely. A bank is a repository where you keep money and valuables private and safe. Let your resume bank do the same for you. Post a resume and keep it updated, but keep your resume private.

Give yourself a leg up on the competition - discover the job search document that will put you over the top at your next interview, the listen for the, "You're hired!" that follows.
