My friends have been great in helping me find a job and I figured that when I write a resume it's just an exercise in finding out who could stretch the truth further. Man I could not have been any more wrong, and I'm glad I found out the truth before I burned my buddies. Check this out from a recent web article:
"When you write a resume try to think of it in one sense as a page of statistics about you. When your networking contact is a quizzed about your background, make sure they have in hand the ammunition they need to quickly fire accurate and informative answers that demonstrate why you would succeed in your new position. Before you know it there will be a buzz in your potential new company when you name is mentioned because your networking contact has really made a great pitch for you.
I've known many who have completely blown terrific networking contacts because they have left obvious holes in their resumes. Don't let this happen to you. Write a resume that gives your champion within your target company the accurate information he or she needs to present you correctly, and won't leave them hanging out to dry with obvious mistakes."
Whoa... that was pretty heavy. I hadn't thought of my friends being held accountable for what I put on my resume... I'm glad I checked this stuff out first. At any rate... you can read more of the article at Write a Resume So Your Networking Contacts Can Champion Your Cause.
Once you get your foot in the door for an interview, make sure you have this document in hand that is guaranteed to seal the deal.
Good luck in your job search.
