Writing a Cover Letter and Resume Doesn't Have to Be Rocket Science

Writing a cover letter and resume doesn't have to be rocket science... unless of course you are a rocket scientist. What you do have to keep in mind is that your resume needs to accurately reflect your work history and background, while your cover letter needs to bridge the gap between what is on your resume and how it applies to the job you are currently seeking. Many times this is easier said than done, particularly if you are just starting out or are trying to make a significant career change.

It is important also that when you present yourself to the hiring manager or human resources person for the job interview that the documents you provide will act as a shield for them if they decide to back you as the best candidate for the job. Get caught in a lie on the resume and the game is up.

Writing a cover letter and resume are two of many skills you need to master in order to find your ideal job. These two items are your calling cards for your new hiring manager. Make sure your potential new boss or human resources manager has the right information about you to effectively sell your application to your new company.

Every manager or human resources representative wants to make the right choice when hiring a new employee. Writing a cover letter and resume that honestly and accurately reflects your skill-set and experiences will make your new hiring manager's job that much easier. Give them the right information with the right tone and you will be giving yourself the best chance to land your ideal job - a job that is both challenging and rewarding for you.

When you are in the midst of conducting your professional job search you are likely to meet people who are influential power brokers in your target companies. Writing a cover letter and resume in advance and having it ready to present to that new high profile contact can really move your name to the top of the list when potential new positions open up. Make a good enough impression and your new company may decide it needs you to fill a position they didn't know they needed until they talked to you.

I'm encouraged by the direction of the new economy, and I know that if you are prepared in advance and have done your professional job search correctly you will be justly rewarded with an ideal job to suit your needs and talents.
